Ahhh mums. We all consider ours the best in the world (mine really is though okay?) so do agree with the idea of pampering them for a day. Some people aren't big on gifts but when you think back to that time when you were 18 and drunk in a gutter outside the bogan nightclub & she was the one who came and picked your sorry ass up, you really should reward her in some way for always being there.
(me and my goofball mum a few years back)
I've made a list of gift ideas, ranging from cheap to pricey and thrown some free and handmade ideas in there too! Not a lame ecoya candle in sight! No excuses now, show your mum you care!
1. OREO TRUFFLES (3 ingredients only!)
These are super easy to make, and only take 3 ingredients so will be cost effective too. Here is the recipe, it makes around 50 of the suckers so a treat for you and mum!
2. PJs OR SLIPPERS
With the weather getting colder you probably can't go wrong with a fresh pair of snuggly Pjs or slippers. New Zealand stores with a good winter range at the moment are:
3. FINGER PAINTING (not joking!)
Not in the messy 100's of colours way she would have received when you were younger but think rough patterns, geometric shapes and simple colours. Follow this link for a great tutorial on how to get this look.
4. MINI PAMPER GIFT PACK
Pick out her fave colour of nail polish wrap it up with some good quality lip balm and a new nail file & maybe a box of chocolates for good measure (not sure about the gum? not me photo!). Done. Perfect little present!
5. HANDMADE TEA TOWELS
Eeeep! Such a neat idea for a mum who spends lots of time in the kitchen! Follow this tutorial to find out how to make these beauties!
6. FREE CARD PRINT OUTS!
These were waaaaay too cute not to share, follow the link to download these free cards & print it yourself! A free gift, who's gonna complain about that?
7. READERS GIFT PACK
If your mum is a bit of a bookworm (hand up over here) why not spoil her with a couple of good magazines and a good novel? My mum is very tech savvy (lol) and has an e-reader so I'd just swap out the physical copy of a novel for a Kobo gift card. If you trawl through a proper magazine merchant or book shop you'll find loads of different magazines you and your mum probably didn't know existed. You're bound to find something she is into.
8. LUSH GIFT BOX
Lush have just brought out a new range of mother's day gift boxes all pre chosen and wrapped for you to hand over. I'm 100% sure you can't go wrong with lush products so whether you pick a ready made box or choose your own she's bound to love it. Here is the link to their new gift box sets.
9. A NEW HANDBAG
This is definitely on the spoil her end of the budget but my mum goes through handbags like they are temporary so I know she's always in need of a new one and chances are your mum is too! Tips would be: big enough to hold a household worth of stuff with good sturdy straps, a darker colour or black because that baby goes everywhere with her & a few different pockets for smaller items. If you order off The Iconic today it will arrive on your doorstep well in time for next week & they offer free returns if you picked really wrong and your mum doesn't like it.
10. A LIVING GIFT
Not like a grandchild (although.....) but a succulent or a potted herb will be a gift she can use over and over and if she's good at keeping plants alive it will last a while too! + 10 points for a quirky pot too!
